Discovery Ride Course in Karuizawa and Miyota by e-Bike

Model Course

The course will take you through the streets and forest roads of Karuizawa to the neighboring town. The course will take in nature, art, spectacular scenery, and food along the way. The tour will end in a hidden corner of Karuizawa, bringing you new "discoveries" that you have never seen or felt before.

SPOT 1

Karuizawa Station

START

This station is a stop on the JR East (Hokuriku Shinkansen) and Shinano Railway lines. The Shinano Railway is a symbol of the area, which was once the main artery of transportation, formerly the Shinetsu Main Line.

SPOT 2

Old Karuizawa Ginza Street

The 18th post town on the Nakasendo Highway. The old post town that flourished over the Usui Pass, a difficult section of the Nakasendo, has passed through the ages and is still popular among tourists today as the Old Karuizawa Ginza Street. Today, more than 200 stores line the street, making it one of Karuizawa's main attractions during the summer season. The entrance to the street is the Old Karuizawa Rotary, where buses and cabs come and go. A statue of the three-faced Horse-headed Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) has been relocated there and quietly observes people's friendship.

Uenohara, 1,000-meter forest road

The tour takes you on an exhilarating ride through the woods on a 1,000-meter forest road used by locals as a way out of the residential area in the Nakakaruizawa area. Feel the pleasant sunlight filtering through the trees, and take a deep breath to feel the refreshing breeze throughout your body. You will be in an extraordinary space as you listen to the chirping of birds. The road is narrow in places, so please be careful of traffic.

It's almost time for lunch♪ Located in Miyota-machi, a neighboring town to Karuizawa, you can enjoy art and food in a rich natural environment. It is a place of rest and relaxation, with exhibitions of works and events by photographers from Japan and abroad, restaurants using local ingredients, stylish cafes, and interior stores featuring vintage Scandinavian furniture and goods.

SPOT 5

Jouin-ji Temple

One of the "Eight Views of Asama," this Soto Zen temple was founded in 1656. There is a several hundred year old weeping cherry tree on the temple grounds, and in spring it is in full bloom. Climb up the hill next to the cherry tree for a few meters and look back to see the pale pink of the cherry trees, the blue sky, and the majestic Mt. This is the best photo spot.

SPOT 6

Unexplored; Mosawa area

From the Jomon period to the present day, this is a place where people have depended on the clear water of the Mosawa River for their livelihood. The original landscape of Karuizawa is here. It is a perfect example of the word "unexplored region. Nearby are the Shigesawa Minamishikido Ruins and the Karuizawa Ohashi Bridge.

SPOT 7

Shinano Oiwake Station

It is a legacy of Karuizawa, where the station building built in 1909 remains intact. Upon entering the cozy station building and looking up, you will be guided by a painting with an aji. In the summer, morning markets and other events are held here, and the area is beloved by local residents.

Karuizawa Tagliassen

Karuizawa Taliasen is a comprehensive resort facility with museums, amusement facilities, restaurants, stores, and other facilities centered on Lake Shiozawa, located in the south of Karuizawa. It is a place of rest and relaxation for the weary body. During the hot season, the soft ice cream served in the park is very tasty.
