Wakita Art Museum

Spot

The universe of Wakita Kazu's paintings, with their poems of the mind spreading out in a spacious manner and his penetrating view of nature and life, is often compared to chamber music with clear tones.
The Wakita Museum of Art is surrounded by a green grove of trees, where the elegant "music of colors" is alive. The museum houses approximately 1,000 oil paintings, drawings, prints, and other works by Wakita Kazu, a representative of the contemporary Western-style painting world, and exhibits a complete picture of the artist from his period of study in Germany in the 1920s to his current works after the Second World War. The museum is also actively developing art programs that seek to connect with the present day, creating a refreshing cultural image in the Karuizawa area.
