Boulanger Asanoya Karuizawa Old Road Main Store
Spot
In 1933, founder Yoshiaki Asano opened Asanoya Shoten in Kojimachi 6-chome, Tokyo, and began manufacturing bread and confectionery as part of his food products.
In 1940, in response to requests from foreign diplomats and their families visiting Tokyo for summer vacation, the company opened a summer branch office and in 1944 opened a permanent store. Designated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a distributor of goods, the store provided liquor and bread distribution services to foreign nationals evacuated to the area during the war.
The Karuizawa Old Road Main Store offers a wide selection of freshly baked bread made in a Spanish stone oven that has been in operation since 1986, as well as a variety of Karuizawa exclusive products.
