The Karuizawa Ando Museum of Art (43-10, Karuizawahigashi, Karuizawa-cho, Kitasaku-gun, Nagano Prefecture) will hold the Summer Special Exhibition 2024 “The Age of War: Tsuguharu Fujita in Japan from Daily Life to Wartime” from July 25, 2024 (Thursday). From 1938 onward, he worked as a military painter and produced war paintings. This exhibition focuses on his stay in Japan in the 1930s and 1940s, between his time in Paris, where he gained fame, and his postwar years in France, where he made up his mind never to return to Japan. The exhibition will focus on Fujita’s life in Japan during the 1930s and 1940s, between his time in Paris with his fame and his time in France after the war, when he was determined never to return to Japan.
