Karuizawa Picture Book Museum 30th Anniversary Spring Special Exhibition: Travels in Märchen of “Grimm’s Fairy Tales

In 1812, the Brothers Grimm published “The Brothers Grimm’s Fairy Tales. At first, the book was published as a text-only book with no illustrations, but the youngest brother, Amir Grimm, added illustrations, and later, the English version with illustrations by George Crookshank spread “The Brothers Grimm’s Fairy Tales” worldwide.
This exhibition features illustrations by various artists, mainly from “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” published over 100 years ago. We will take you on a time travel through the world of old books, tracing the trajectory of Märchen’s illustrations.
